Optimize the Journey, Ignite the Future

Feeling stuck in an endless loop of optimizing the same old? We’ve all been there, and not just in my IT field. The future belongs to those who dare to invent, not just refine. How to bridge origination and optimization? Here are my thoughts…

Let’s face it, the business world has a crippling addiction to optimization. We’re obsessed with squeezing every last drop of efficiency out of existing systems, chasing that elusive 12% improvement, marginally faster process, or few new features of existing product. But here’s the glaring reality: obsession with optimization is a recipe for irrelevance in the coming economy of creativity.

Think about it — electric lights weren’t invented by optimizing candles. We needed a complete paradigm shift, a daring originator with a crazy idea. In my work, I see countless companies, once fueled by groundbreaking ideas, slowly turn into fortresses of optimization. They become risk-averse, clinging to the familiar, prioritizing short-term gains over long-term vision. These companies are the corporate equivalents of those who refused to check the bushes for fear of lions — safe, perhaps, but destined for extinction in the coming creative storm.

We haven’t forgotten the lessons of history, have we? Our ancestors thrived because they dared to explore the unknown, not because they became masters of optimizing fire making.

The future economy belongs to those who can not only optimize but also originate. We need a new generation of businesses built on the cornerstone of creativity — companies that empower their Originators, the dreamers and risk-takers who see possibilities where others see limitations. We need to create fertile grounds for them to experiment, a playground for unleashing their ideas — even if the path forward seems uncertain.

To the CEOs and Leaders: Is endless optimization the only legacy you want to leave? Startups are disrupting entire industries because they haven’t succumbed to the optimization trap. Don’t become another cautionary tale — make creativity a core value. Cultivate a culture that celebrates both optimization and origination. It’s not about who wins, it’s about creating a future-proof company that thrives on both innovation and efficiency.

And to my fellow engineers and creative minds: Don’t let your inner originator be silenced! We were all born with the ability to imagine, to create, to push boundaries. Let’s reignite that spark and bring back the spirit of invention to our companies.

The future belongs to those who can not only navigate the rapids of change but also become the architects of entirely new currents. Let’s break free from the cult of optimization and embrace the power of creativity. The future is bright, but only for those who make space for both the polish and the spark. After all, the future economy isn’t about optimizing candles, it’s about illuminating entirely new landscapes.
